World War II - Poster - WAC by Dorota97 World War II - Poster - WAC by Dorota97
There is a wonderful story veteran WAC.
I'm proud that I can reconstruct such a wonderful woman !

"She shipped out to Des Moines, Iowa, for basic training, which included much of the same stuff men did: drills, marching with backpacks and kitchen patrol.
She also learned to shoot a gun.
"I don't know why, but they still taught us how to do that," she said.

She was assigned to a school in Texas and an air base in Mississippi for more training. She did well enough that she was recommended for officer training school.

But she said, "I didn't want to be an officer. I just wanted to be one of the guys.""

"Miller said she was claustrophobic and refused to go to the air raid shelter.

"I was more afraid of the air raid shelter than I was of the bombs," she said. "I don't know if I was too young to be scared.""

"As preparations approached for the D-Day invasion of Normandy in June 1944, Miller was restricted to her base. When the invasion began, the WACs worked four hours on and four hours off around the clock. In her fatigue, she said, she forgot to salute when she left the operations building and bumped into a two-star general.

"He said, 'That's OK, girlie. We are all tired,' " she said."
